Red Twig Dogwood
The Red Twig Dogwood or Red-osier Dogwood has distinctive and attractive deep red branches. It is a beautiful upright shrub that displays white blossoms in May giving way to bright red berries in the fall.

The Red Twig Dogwood is an excellent plant for massing in large areas, and because of its interesting stem color it makes it suitable for shrub border use in residential landscapes. The Red Twig Dogwood can be an effective bank cover for it holds soil quite well. Other uses for the Red Twig Dogwood plant include border, screen, massing, and specimen plant.

The root system of the Red Twig Dogwood is quite fibrous which makes transplanting relatively easy. The Red Twig Dogwood tolerates a wide range of soil conditions. Although it is native to moist or swampy sites, it adapts well to dryer conditions.
The Red Twig Dogwood is also known as Cornus sericea, Western Dogwood, American Dogwood and Redstem Dogwood.

It is an attractive plant for landscaping with its deep red stems and twigs for winter color. The many creamy white flowers in the spring are followed by attractive white fruits. The fall color is gorgeous with the maroon fall leaves. Twig color is best on newest growth. To maintain nice red twig color, remove 1/3 of the stems (the oldest growth) at ground level each spring.
